In the year 2019, a group of 24 people, consisting of gentlemen and gentlewomen who share the principles and ideals of brotherhood and chivalry, agreed to restore, preserve and perpetuate the tradition of the noble knights who in 1408 founded the order called “Societas Draconistrarum” in defence of human rights.
On 14 September 2019, in the course of the first Chapter held at Viglas Castle, the Grand Council decided to titular the new and newly formed order of knights as the “Fraternitas – Ordo – Draconis”. As its first new Grand Master “Commendatory” was appointed the Baron Stephen Peter Mercury.
Later, in the second Chapter, held at Viglas Castle on 13 November 2021, the Grand Council, having regard to the prerogative of orders of chivalry, which states “that the sovereignty of an Order also derives from the ownership of ancient possessions” considering that Viglas Castle belonged to Emperor Sigismund and later to his wife Barbara von Celje, founders of the Order of the Dragon, unanimously decided to consider the Order as a subject of international law, naming it “Sovereign International Ordo Draconis”.
At the same Chapter, Daniel von Rechitar – Count of Rechitar, owner of the Castle of Vigl’as, was elected Grand Master of the Brotherhood, while Baron Stefano Pietro Mercuri was appointed new Grand Chancellor of the Order.
