The Motto of the knight was ‘my soul to God, my life to the King, my heart to the Lady, honour to me’, so the knight had to accustom himself to defend the faith, to place himself at the service of the weak and oppressed and to elevate his spirit in the platonic and romantic worship of women, consecrating worthy thoughts and deeds to her: everything was then idealised and permeated by the consciousness of being militant for Christ and his Church.
